The basics

What is a Sustainability Report

A Sustainability Report is the document in which a company reports its environmental, social and governance impacts in a structured way, following a recognised standard. It is not a list of good intentions: it is a set of measured, documented and verifiable indicators, organised according to a framework shared at European or international level.

ESRS · GRI · VSME

It is the tool a company uses to communicate its position on environmental, social and governance issues to customers, banks, partners, investors and employees.

The path

The stages of ESG reporting

ESG reporting is a structured path that starts with defining the scope of analysis and leads to the collection, organisation and harmonisation of the information needed to draft the report.

01

Defining the scope and choosing the team

The companies, activities and sites included in the reporting scope are defined, and the business functions to involve are identified. Roles and responsibilities are assigned from the start to make the information-gathering process clear and effective.

02

Choosing the reporting standard

Based on the company's characteristics, regulatory obligations and reporting goals, the most appropriate standard is identified, such as ESRS, VSME or GRI. The standard defines the structure of the path and the information to report.

03

Double materiality assessment

The most relevant sustainability topics are identified and assessed from two perspectives: the company's impacts on the environment and society, and the ESG risks and opportunities that may have financial effects on the business. The results set the reporting priorities.

04

Collecting ESG information

Quantitative data and qualitative information are collected from the different business functions, based on the requirements of the chosen reporting standard and on the ESG topics identified as material in the previous stages.

05

Harmonising the information

The collected data are checked, organised and made consistent across functions, companies and reporting periods. The harmonised information provides a solid, structured basis for drafting the sustainability report.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions companies ask us most often before starting the reporting process.

The obligation depends on the company's size, sector and corporate structure. Many companies that are not directly required still prepare a report because ESG information is requested by banks, large customers and supply-chain leaders. In the preliminary analysis we check your specific regulatory position and recommend the most suitable standard.
ESRS are the European standards linked to the CSRD and require the highest level of detail. GRI is the most widely used international voluntary standard, focused on impacts on stakeholders. VSME is the voluntary standard designed for unlisted SMEs, with a reduced and proportionate set of disclosures. The choice is made in the first stage of the path.
It depends on the chosen standard, the reporting scope and the availability of internal data. The first year is the most demanding, because it includes mapping roles and responsibilities; the following years build on the process already in place and require significantly less effort.
Typically administration, human resources, production, purchasing, quality and HSE, as well as management. In the second stage we assign each function the data it is responsible for, with owners and deadlines, so that data collection does not fall on a single person.
Energy and water consumption, data on waste and materials, workforce information (headcount, training, health and safety), governance data and supply-chain data. You don't need to have everything ready at the start: collection is part of the path and includes rebuilding the supporting documentation.
Yes. The Sustainability Reporting Software is also available as a standalone tool, with a guided step-by-step path according to the reference standard. The supported models, full or hybrid, remain available depending on the level of support you need.
